Alcohol prep pads are a type of antiseptic made from non woven material soaked in either isopropyl or ethyl alcohol. Alcohol prep pads are also referred to as alcohol swabs, alcohol wipes, and alcohol towelettes. As an antiseptic, alcohol prep pads are used as a topical disinfectant to kill germs and bacteria, usually prior to injections. Conversely, they can also be used as disinfectants when used on inanimate objects such as hospital equipment instead of living tissue. When alcohol prep pads are used as disinfectants, they are usually referred to as alcohol wipes or alcohol towelettes.
